Located along State Route 74 in the San Bernardino National Forest, Mountain Center offers a quiet, elevated lifestyle surrounded by rugged, mountainous terrain and pine trees. Less than an hour`s drive from Palm Desert in one direction and Hemet in the other, life in this rural town at over 4,500 feet above sea level is a change of pace from the bustle of the Coachella Valley. Mountain Center is south of Idyllwild, another iconic mountain town, and is home to popular Lake Hemet, a major camping, fishing, and hiking destination.

Unique Terrain

Mountain Center is home to, and connected to, some of the best hiking in the San Bernardino National Forest and Riverside County. Popular trails include South Ridge Trail, Devils Slide Trail, and Hurkey Creek Trail, attracting outdoor enthusiasts from around Southern California to experience the splendor of nature at a higher level. Many of the trails winding through Mountain Center connect with other networks that continue through the mountains to Idyllwild, back down to the floor of the Coachella Valley, and to the iconic Pacific Crest Trail.

Life on the Lake

Rural living wouldn`t be complete without a body of water to enjoy a day of fishing, canoeing, or walks along its shores. Lake Hemet, a manmade lake, rounds out the mountain experience. With a surface area of 470 acres and over 12 miles of shoreline, the lake leaves ample room to explore and enjoy life on the water. The lake is stocked with fish, including rainbow trout, channel catfish, largemouth bass, and bluegill. In addition to fishing, the lake attracts boaters, hikers, and has a camp grounds that features an inflatable waterpark on the lake.
